What is Myofascial Release?
Trauma, surgery, and inflammatory responses create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressure of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch. The fascial pressure acts as a straight jacket on muscles, nerves, blood vessels and osseous structures producing symptoms of pain, headaches and restriction of motion. As fascia doesn’t show up on CT scans or MRIs, it is very often missed by untrained physicians.
As one of the leading myofascial release therapists in the region, I use slow, mindful stretches to allow your tissue to soften naturally.
Depending on your goals, I offer two ways to work with your fascia:
Myofascial Release (MFR):A purely structural treatment focused on deep fascial unwinding and clinical relief for chronic restrictions.
Myofascial Release & Massage: A hybrid session where I first open the fascial web and then transition into a flowing massage to help your nervous system fully settle.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
Structural Relief & Clinical Focus
Designed for those needing deep structural correction. This session uses slow, steady pressure to follow your body’s own rhythm, allowing the fascial web to open without force. It is the ideal choice for long-term pain, postural imbalances, or restricted motion.

Myofascial Release & Massage
The Ultimate Fusion of Relief & Relaxation
A 60, 90, or 120-minute session that combines the deep power of MFR with the soothing flow of massage therapy. I begin by releasing fascial tension and transition into a smooth massage to help your nervous system settle into peace.

Everything You Need to Know Before Your First Session
1. What is a myofascial release?
It is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
2. Is myofascial release painful?
No. This therapy uses a quiet, mindful process that allows the tissue to soften naturally without force or strain. While you may feel warmth or subtle movement, it should not be painful.
3. How to dress for a myofascial release?
For the best results, MFR is often performed directly on the skin without oils. Many clients wear loose shorts and a tank top or traditional massage draping, depending on the specific areas being addressed. Check out my practice policies on how to prepare for a treatment.
4. Do foam rollers work for myofascial massage?
While foam rollers can provide temporary relief, they cannot replicate the sustained, 5–10 minute mindful stretches and specialized treatment provided by professional myofascial therapists.
5. Can an enlarged lymph node be caused by myofascial massage?
Myofascial work improves circulation and helps the body process fluids. While massage itself does not cause enlarged nodes, if you have concerns about a specific node, I recommend a consultation to ensure MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) or a medical referral isn’t more appropriate.

Effective. Do happy I found Makalani LM Therapy. The change has been incredible. Faran Riley Peterson2024-07-21Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. For years I have suffered with lymph edema only to be told by doctors to wear compression socks. But the swelling wasn't just in my legs and feet, it was in my whole body. Summertime is especially brutal for me. Kamaka had me in for a consultation and treatment. She taught me so much about my lymphatic system and how it has to be drained. Once the treatment began I could feel the fluid in my limbs circulating. When the treatment was done my legs looked how a normal person's legs should look. But not just my legs - my belly wasn't swollen, my arms looked skinnier and my neck and face are significantly more defined. It's incredible! I weighed myself the morning of my appointment wondering if I might lose some water weight from the treatment. The next morning I weighed 5.2lbs less. Only downside is, my engagement ring is loose! Heidi Bristol2024-01-23Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Kamaka is fantastic. She is knowledgeable and professional and gives an amazing massage. Derrick Lewis2023-08-12Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I had rotator cuff surgery a few months ago and now I’m going to physical therapy and Makalani Lymphedema & Massage Therapy was suggested to me and I thought I’d give it a try. I had some pain, but the area where the tendon was reattached was REALLY sore. I’ve had two Myofascial Release Treatments and the results are AMAZING. Not near as much soreness and the pain is is nearly gone, not to mention my body as a whole feels GREAT. I would really recommend this treatment if you’re post opt, having pain from arthritis, or feeling physically drained. There has been extreme attention paid to cleanliness, the website is easy to navigate, and making appointments is a snap. Malia Ott2023-05-17Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Kamaka is such a gifted healer. I found her after a surgery when I needed Lymphatic Drainage Massage. Her LDM work is incredible. I’ve continued to go to Kamaka for LDM as well as her other healing practices, most recently for Myofascial Release. My husband, son and I have been relieved of all sorts of sports injuries, etc under her hands. I’m healthier and happy with her in my life. A gifted healer and a gift to all she encounters.
